ATP ATP Hydrolysis
7/22Photosynthesis
HW: Watch Khan Academy's video, Photosynthesis :
Note questions:
1. Write out the basic formula for photosynthesis._____________+_______________+__________________-->________________+__________________
2. What are the two main parts of photosynthesis? ______________________ & ____________________
3. What chemicals are made in the first part?
4. Which chemicals are oxidized? __________________ & ___________________ Which is reduced? _______________________
5. What is the main chemical made in the second part of photosynthesis? _____________________
Warm-up:
1. Read pages 505-509. 2. Name three important marine phytoplankton. 3. Give two facts about each. 4. Learn the scientific name for one of them.
Lesson: Microbes & the Climate
Assessment-Blooms Gone Wild
Activity
In teams,
1. Read MBARI's, 20 years: The Diversity and Importance of Marine Microbes.
2. Highlight the types of microbes and underline the techniques used to identify them. Put a star by the three characteristics that DNA analysis shows.
3. Use your colored SST contour map from the Ecology unit and identify regions likely to have more primary productivity. Tell why.
4. In groups, start analyzing SST and chlorophyll satellite maps from around the globe. Choose three locations to compare and present one of these to the class.
5. Use the Microbes and Climate Handout and become an expert on one of the microbes. Include your microbe's distribution and abundance. Present your microbe to the class.
re-do assessment
Warm-up: What are three main microbes important for global primary productivity? Match them to to pictures above. What does the first picture show?
Lab: Microbes, Predicting Growth
HW: Read p 201-207.
-on p 203, do problems 1-4.
-on p 207, do problems 1-4.
-Write-up your conclusion in your Lab journal.
